British Film Commission at Berlin International Film Festival 2023

Wednesday February 22 2023

Berlin International Film Festival is celebrating it’s 73rd edition this year, and members of the British Film Commission team attended Berlin’s European Film Market (16th-22nd February) to represent the UK’s screen industries at the dedicated UK stand, along with the UK’s national and regional industry partners.

The UK’s film and High-end TV industries are very much open for business, and with inward investment spend reaching £5.37 billion in 2022, the UK’s screen sector continues to reinforce its globally recognised position as a first-class production centre.

With opportunities for all growing, the BFC’s presence at Berlin marks an important moment in the annual festival calendar to connect, collaborate and meet with our European friends and partners.

Coinciding with the festival, the BFC and FILM in AUSTRIA signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on 18th February, to further strengthen collaboration between the UK and Austrian screen industries, and to facilitate film and High-end TV production between the two countries.

Adrian Wootton, Chief Executive of the British Film Commission, said: “The UK continues to experience remarkable growth in production, generating billions of pounds for the UK economy and thousands of new jobs. Providing these opportunities for growth remains vital to the continued success of the industry globally. We are delighted to be building on our relationship with FILM in AUSTRIA through this new friendship agreement.”

The BFC was also delighted to welcome representatives from several European film commissions at our European partner dinner in Berlin, further demonstrating our commitment to strengthening European collaboration and exchange.
