How do I find UK crew?


The following sources of information can help you find the right UK crew for your production:

British Film Commission

Made in the UK

Our Made in the UK section lists major feature films made in the UK and includes details of selected UK crew who worked on the projects.

The network of UK agencies can provide contacts and availability information for crew in England, Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales. Many of the agencies have online production/crew directories.


Guilds & associations

A number of UK guilds and associations provide information on their members:

Cine Guilds: The Movie Crew website is a single portal site which allows productions to to access directories of high quality UK film crew. It is made up of independent craft associations.

Line producers & production accountants: The Production Guild of Great Britain can advise on contacts and availability for its members who include production executives, accountants and financial administrators.

Location managers: The Guild of Location Managers has details of its members available online.

Sound technicians: The Association of Motion Picture Sound (AMPS) has a directory of its members available online.

Production designers: The British Film Designers Guild has a directory of members with biographies available online.

Cinematographers: The British Society of Cinematographers has a list of members and some biographies on its website.

Directors: Visit the websites of the Directors Guild of Great Britain or Directors UK.

Camera technicians: The Guild of British Camera Technicians' website has details of its members. The guild also offers a free printed crew directory.

Make-up & hair: The National Association of Screen Make-up Artists and Hairdressers (NASMAH) has a list of its members with credits and contact details available online.

Editors: The Guild of British Film & Television Editors has a list of members available online.

Casting directors: The Casting Directors Guild of Great Britain and Ireland.

Additionally, UK Screen Association, the trade body for companies which provide services to the film and television industries, maintains a database of its members working in production and post-production

Are UK crews unionised?


Crews in the UK are not unionised on the same scale as they are in some countries. Unions in the UK do not generally set rates of pay for feature film production, however individuals may be a member of a union such as BECTU or Equity.

The Broadcasting, Entertainment, Cinematograph and Theatre Union (BECTU) is the union for workers in film, broadcasting and the arts.

Equity represents actors, performers, choreographers, stunt personnel and other individuals working in the entertainment industry.

Where do I find information on crew rates?


Crew rates in the UK are not set by unions but are negotiated by the producer and the individual crew member. For information on current rates we recommend that you contact a UK line producer. The Production Guild of Great Britain can provide contacts for experienced line producers.
